DUE TODAY: Five homework questions from Internet unit

HOMEWORK TONIGHT: Read "The Business of Sound Recording" pgs 102-111

FOCUS TODAY: Formation of Rock Music

Adding to the five unit questions on the Internet:

On the back of the last page (if you had more than one page) answer these questions:

  1. On a scale of one to five, how difficult was it to answer these questions? (1= easy, 5 = impossible)
  2. How confident are you in your answers to the questions? Describe and explain in a sentence or two – which are your better answers? Which are not so great?
  3. What is the one thing you think is important to have learned about the Internet? Something that is relevant for people who use it.

Reading:

  • "U.S. Popular Music and the Formation of Rock" pgs 82-89 with worksheet

Listening to some of the music we read about

Everyone will sign up for a genre of popular music to investigate. The genres covered in the textbook are:

  • British Invasion (Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, etc.)
  • Soul (Motown and the Detroit sound)
  • Folk (Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, etc.)
  • Psychedelic Rock (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix,  etc.)
  • Mainstream Rock
  • Punk/Grunge/Alternative
  • Hip-Hop/Rap

Read about your assigned genre in the textbook, and see what general information you can find online. Perhaps browse the offerings on Amazon. Come next class with some interesting information about your genre, and if possible, bring a sample song from that genre.

HOMEWORK:

Begin collecting music and information about your assigned music genre
